Co-curators Hannah Johnston, Aline Zara, Eleanor Howell are excited to present a contemporary art exhibition, What We Take, at the John B. Aird Gallery from February 26 to March 22, 2019 (Monday to Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.) The opening reception will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on February 28, 2019. Entry to the exhibition and all programmed events is free of charge. What We Take features photographic and sculptural works from a small group of emerging artists. Witty, intimate, and whimsical, this contemporary art exhibition explores how the things we take with us from one place to another both confirm and disrupt our understandings of home.
What We Take features works from eight Ontario-based emerging artists: Shabnam Afrand, Ahmed Babolly, Ioana Dragomir, Joon Hee Kim, Michelle Lewin, Yasmeen Nematt Alla, Asma Sultana, and Polina Teif. The co-curators are all graduate students at the University of Toronto; What We Take is their capstone project for the Master of Museum Studies program. There will be an artist discussion panel on Thursday March 7, 2019, from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. There will also be a curatorial tour on Saturday March 16, from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
What We Take is presented with the assistance of the University of Toronto School of Cities, the University of Toronto Faculty of Information, the University of Toronto Centre for Community Partnerships, the University of Toronto Graduate Student Union, and the City of Toronto Arts Connections Program.
