Each year, City Council votes on a budget that determines the nature and level of services like public health, shelter beds, warming centres, youth spaces, recreation centres, transit, child care and much more. The budget process also determines how accessible some of these programs will be – for example, it sets transit fares, rates for city-run swimming lessons, and much more. A draft budget has been proposed by City staff, Boards and agencies. City Council will vote on it in early 2020, often making amendments in the process. Find out what the proposed budget means for communities, patients and health in the city, and what you can do to intervene.
