Commemorating the Dragon Centre

When and Where

Saturday, October 05, 2019 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm
Dragon Centre
23 Glen Watford Drive Scarborough, ON M1S 2B7

The Dragon Centre Stories Commemoration Project is a community project to document the history and cultural heritage of the Dragon Centre, North America’s first indoor Chinese Mall located in Scarborough (Agincourt).

Opened in 1984, it quickly became a commercial and cultural hub for the Chinese-Canadian community, serving as a catalyst for suburbanization and became a magnet for racial tension in the area. Today, as the mall is slated for redevelopment, a group of planners, artists, architects and scholars seek to celebrate and gather together memories of the mall during a day-long event of community storytelling, exhibition, and documentation.

The event is free of charge. October 5th is also the 2nd annual Nuit Blanche event being held in Scarborough and participants will be encouraged to attend both events to further celebrate Scarborough as a diverse and dynamic part of Toronto.
