Description

The field of behavioural science — the science of understanding, analyzing and motivating human behaviour — holds enormous potential to improve public policy and the delivery of public services. In recent years, behavioural insights derived from scientific knowledge and methods in the fields of psychology, cognitive/neuroscience, and economics have been applied by governments around the world. Most of these applications, however, have been limited to national and provincial contexts.

This half-day workshop for municipal practitioners will bring together city managers and senior city staff from across the Greater Toronto Area to demonstrate potential applications of behavioural insights in local and regional government, and build a network of interested partners to explore future collaborations and innovations in municipal service design and delivery.

The workshop will include presentations from the following panellists, followed by breakout groups where attendees can ask specific questions about how behavioural insights might be applied to their policy work:

Brianne Kirkpatrick
Manager, Behavioural Insights Unit, Government of Ontario

Kim Ly
Research Fellow, Behavioural Economics in Action at Rotman School of Management

Sasha Tregebov
Principal Advisor, Behavioural Insights Team

** Registration is free, but restricted to municipal practitioners. Please register using your institutional email address. Contact urbanpolicylab@utoronto.ca with any questions.

Presented by the University of Toronto's Urban Policy Lab at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, in partnership with Behavioural Economics in Action (BEAR) at the Rotman School of Management, with financial support from the School of Cities.
